It's always so quiet at work the week between X-mas and New Year's. Too boring. I have work to do, but I need a little pressure.

I wonder if anyone will ever read this

I've read a lot over the years. Here's some of what I learned.

Don't make your problems out to be worse than they are
Enjoy what you have, don't worry about what you don't. Jealousy is a waste of time.
Live in the present and keep moving forward. Plan for the future, but don't worry about it.
The past is inescapable, the future is inevitable, but the present is forever unrestrained.
Get enough sleep, take time off to relax, and exercise to better handle stress
The race is long, and not always to the swift. More importantly, it's with yourself. Do what you enjoy, not what makes money.
Life isn't all about money, no matter what you're supposed to believe.
You still need contingency plans to make sure you have it.
Making a Life isn't supposed to be easy. It's a lot easier than you for others.
What if there isn't an afterlife? If this is your only shot.
Don't talk too much at work. Be careful who you reveal your true opinions to.
The world does not owe you anything. You have to take what you want because no one is going to give it to you.
There are a lot of people out there who would take what you have if you gave them the opportunity.
Life is about choices. You won't always make the right ones, but you can't do everything.
Anger makes you weak, but hate has its uses.
You are who you choose to be.
Watch for patterns. Use the ones you see in others, and make sure you don't have too many yourself.
Think about what you're doing.
Sometimes patterns are illusions
Confidence
If your life isn't the way that you want it, only you have the power to change it.
Pay off your debts first. Handle your money wisely.
Heal yourself. Don't be too sensitive.
You'd rather have friends than money. Remember what's important in life.
Don't compare yourself to others. You never know who's jealous of you.
Keep working; there are no guarantees of success.
No fear; you have to have confidence in yourself and your abilities.
Don't equate happiness with money.
Devote time and effort to close relationships.
Pause for reflection, meditate on the good things in life.
Seek work that engages your skills, look to enjoy your job.
Don't pursue happiness for its own sake, enjoy the moment.
Take control of your life, set achievable goals.
Don’t underestimate what you can do
Find a job where you feel needed and appreciated if you want to be happy.
Don’t forget what you’ve learned. The past can fade. That’s why you write things down.
Play the system, or the system will play you
Stay out of other people's business when you can. Never get involved in domestic affairs. Keep others out of your business.
Time is limited. Live the life you want to live, not what someone else thinks you should live.
If you're not first in her mind, you're just part of her fan club.
Hold on tightly when you have it, but know when to let go.
Try to trust and look for the best in people, but don't be naïve.
People don't always want to know the truth. They'd rather believe their illusions, even when evidence doesn't support it.
People will not always tell you the truth. Consider the speaker's motivations.
Most people are lazy most of the time.
Always try to eat with someone else. Mealtimes are some of the best social occasions.
It takes a lot of courage and effort to be social, but it's better than being alone.
Relationships should be easy. The good ones are still a lot of work, but you don't mind it.
If the relationship is hard, leave it.
Chaos and order should each be accepted for what they are.
The one thing in life you can count on is change. Not expecting it is foolish. Adapt.
Do things to make yourself happy, because the world doesn't care.
People will lie to you all the time, and when caught will deny that they are lying. Don't trust anyone.
Always ask what someone's motiviation is. Sometimes they'll surprise you in their altruism, but get ready for a lot of dissapointment
People will talk about you behind your back. Listen for when it gets back to you, but don't pursue it. Mostly it's bad, but sometimes it's not.
There are some people out there that you just shouldn't even bother to talk to. Their minds are closed and nothing you can say or do will alter that. Avoid them if possible.
When you're trying to balance work and fun, think about what you'll remember a year from now.
Try to play fair, but remember that others won't. You don't always need to take advantage, but don't be a sucker.
Leave the world a better place than you found it.
Try to be one of the good guys; there are way too many of the bad.
Life's about more than greed.
Never stop learning. Others give up and tread water.
Don't spend more than you earn.
Make up your own mind. Don't listen to other people
Don't get caught up in the minutae of culture that won't matter a damn later on
No one cares what car you drive and if they do, I doubt you want to spend time with them anyway
People will try to tell you what to do; what you should buy, what you should believe, how you should feel; Make up your own mind
Define who you are, and know it so no one else can define you.
Don't start a fight, but finish it. Hard and final so they never come back at you.
If anyone stands in your way, try to go around. If you can't, hit hard, quiet and fast
There is no "fair". Especially not in these kinds of circumstances.
Spend less than you earn
Money can't buy happiness, but it does buy freedom. Having a lot of money just means you don't have to worry about not having enough money
Money is time. When you spend money, you're spending the time it takes to buy that object. Think of a purchase in terms of how long and hard you worked to make that money.
Debt means that you have to work.
There will always be people who tell you they are better than you. History has always had those with more money or power who try to keep control.
Strangers will often take advantage of you. Dentists will tell you have a cavity when you know you don't. Mechanics will cheat you on car repairs.
Take your time to find a good one and stay with them.
Promptness shows respect
You can’t avoid offending people from time to time. When you don’t mean it, apologize. When you do mean it, accept the consequences.
It’s 10 times easier to fall in love than to stay in love. And no matter what the sad songs say about romance, broken hearts do mend.
Don’t waste your breath proclaiming what’s really important to you. How you spend your time says it all.
Anyone who judges you by the kind of car you drive or shoes you wear isn’t someone worth impressing.
Physical attraction is nice, but shared values and a shared sense of humor are the real keys to lasting love.
Pay off your credit cards every month.
If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
Be eccentric now.
The next time you're worried about what someone thinks about you, remember that people are too self-centered to think of anyone but themselves.
Question authority. Don't be one of the sheep.
You don't get what you don't ask for. No one else knows what's in your mind. Most people won't speak up.
If you put 10 people in a room, they may or may not find a friend, but each and every one of them will find someone to hate.
Hapiness is boring, drama is exciting. That doesn't mean you want to live your life worrying or unhappy.
Watch out for people who enjoy constant drama. They want to draw you into their play as a supporting player. They're easy to identify; they're the ones who always have something going wrong in their lives.
Those beneath you will try to pull you down to their level if you let them.
They will spend all of their time trying to tear you down to make themselves feel better
You'll be judged by your appearance. It's unfair and has nothing to do with who you really are inside, but it's reality.
Work will care more about what you appear to do than what you actually accomplish.
Look all you want, but you'll never find the perfect match. Everyone has something you have to get used to. Including you.
Don't base your expectations on tv. No one is going to come and rescue you from your dull existence with their wacky charm.
Consider the source of the advice your getting. What motive do they have (including this advice which is being written before you can talk).
There's a huge difference between thinking about something and actually doing it. Try to choose appopriately
No one is living the life you think they're living, and you'd be surprised to find out what people think about you.
Work: When someone tells you they will take care of you, but won't tell you how or what they're doing, what they mean is that they're taking care of themselves and want to make sure you keep out of the way.
Dating: Nature doesn't care about your feelings, it only cares about reproduction
You can't con an honest man. Greed will get you lost.
Walk like you've got a purpose. Look like you're moving in the right direction and people will leave you alone, no matter which way you're really headed.
Perception is reality. To other people.
